Detailed understanding and three dimensional unsteady modeling using the Spectral Method of the convective patterns in a glassy material that is subject to interface deflections. In addition to surface deflection the viscosity of the melt is a strong function of the temperature and is an added complication to the problem. The challenge in the research is to delineate the scales that characterize the convection. This work is in collaboration with St Gobain Reserche in Paris.
Other collaborations include the development of a microgravity experiment on patterns in Marangoni convection with JAXA, the Japanese Space Agency and Tokyo University of Science
