Research Description: The purpose of our research isto study the transport phenomena occurring in glass melting processes like melting of raw materials, mass transfer around bubbles and unmelted grains, chemical reactions, natural convection in glass furnaces, magneto hydrodynamics in electric furnaces, and the fluid mechanics of two-phase flows. Specific models are developed and numerically solved either with commercial software or with with own numerical tools using Spectral or Boundary Integral methods. Experimental investigations are also done with laboratory furnaces working at high temperature (between 1000 and 1600 °C).
